World Championship being held in Rotorua
| Starts:

|
| Finishes:
Sunday, August 27, 2006
|
Venue: Mount
Ngongotaha,
Rotorua, New Zealand |
THE VENUE
To accommodate UCI requirements for one event village, the Down Hill
and Cross Country trails will be on Mount Ngongotaha with the Four-Cross
in the natural amphitheatre above Mountain Action. This will also
provide easy access for spectators and great vantage points
for television coverage. If you were at the National Hill
Climb Champs in January you would have had a preview of the stunning
views across the Lakes and out across the Bay of Plenty to the Pacific
beyond.
The Downhill track will start right at the top of Mount Ngongotaha and
will initially run through the prehistoric native forest before charging
down through the Skyline Skyrides estate to a finish line just above
the bottom gondola station. This will be where the main event village
will be located and will also be the start/finish area for the Cross
Country. The Cross Country course will wind up to the top gondola
station and then descend back to the village.
Trials will be located in and around the village and the Four-Cross
course will be just down the road at Mountain Action.
Planning has already begun for all courses and construction of the
Down Hill course began in late April.
Rotorua's magnificent
Whakarewarewa forest network won't miss out either. Visitors are sure
to ride there and a week before the Champs a marathon duration (70-80kms)
Citizen's Race will be run on the single track and out the back.
Before then, there will at least 2 major events run on the World's
courses in 2005 and 2006.
